How They Work

PV tracking modules rely on mechanical or electro-mechanical systems to move the panels. Key components include:

  • Tracker Mounts: Hold the panels securely while allowing movement .
  • Motors and Drive Shafts: Rotate the panels along one or two axes .
  • Sensors and Algorithms: Detect sunlight intensity and calculate the sun's position using time, date, and geographic location .

  • Dual-Axis Trackers (DAT): Rotate panels along both azimuth and elevation axes, achieving near-perpendicular alignment with the sun throughout the year. These are used in areas with limited land or for specialized applications like concentrated PV systems .
  • Passive Trackers: Move using natural heat expansion without motors.
  • Timed Trackers: Adjust panels based on a pre-set schedule .

Applications and Benefits

PV tracking modules are widely used in utility-scale solar farms and concentrated solar power systems. They are particularly advantageous in regions with high solar irradiation, as they:
