Fiber Types and Standards
China Unicom has deployed G.654.E “Large Effective Area Fiber” (LEAF) for long-haul, high-speed networks. These fibers are designed for low-loss, large effective area transmission, supporting single-wave 100G and beyond, and are suitable for harsh environments such as deserts and snow-covered regions . The G.654.E fibers are part of ITU-T standards and were field-tested in Xinjiang and Shandong for adaptability, installation, and maintenance . For standard single-mode applications, China Unicom also uses G.652 fibers, often integrated in hybrid cables with hollow-core fibers to enhance transmission performance while maintaining compatibility with existing networks .
Cable Models
- GYTA Outdoor Cable: This model is designed for outdoor deployment and complies with YD/T 901-2009 and IEC 60794-1 standards . It is suitable for WiFi and telecom backbone applications, providing mechanical protection and environmental resistance.
- Hybrid Hollow-Core Cable: Hengtong, in collaboration with China Unicom, deployed a 46-core G.652 + 2-core hollow-core fiber configuration for commercial use, combining conventional fibers with hollow-core fibers to improve transmission speed and reduce latency .
