Transmission Mechanism

In FBT couplers, fibers are fused and stretched to form a coupling region where light is exchanged between cores.   • Uniformity: Variation of insertion loss across the operational wavelength range, indicating how evenly the coupler transmits light over different wavelengths .

  • Fiber Type: Single-mode fibers are preferred for long-distance, high-capacity transmission, while multimode fibers are suitable for short-range applications due to higher dispersion and loss .
  • Alignment Sensitivity: Angular mismatches significantly reduce coupling efficiency, whereas axial mismatches have a smaller effect .
  • Applications: Optical couplers are used in fiber-to-home networks, optical sensing, data centers, and industrial communication systems, enabling signal splitting, combining, and monitoring .
