Epon User Device Settings

EPON ONU devices can be configured via their web interface using the default IP address and login credentials, allowing setup of network, WAN, VLAN, and authentication settings.

Accessing the EPON ONU

1. Connect to the ONU: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your PC directly to the ONU.
2. Find the IP address: Most EPON ONUs use default IPs like 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.100.1. On Windows, open Command Prompt, type ipconfig, and check the Default Gateway—this is your ONU's IP .
3. Login: Open a web browser and enter the ONU IP. Use the default username and password printed on the device label (commonly admin/admin or similar), .

Basic Configuration

Once logged in, you can configure the following:

• WAN/Internet Connection: Choose between:
  • DHCP: Automatically assigns IP from ISP (most common).
  • Static IP: Manually enter IP, subnet mask, and gateway if provided by ISP.
  • PPPoE: Enter ISP-provided username and password for authentication .
• LAN Settings: Configure local network IP range, DHCP server, and LAN port modes. Some ONUs allow setting LAN ports as gateway or relay .
• VLAN and QoS: Set VLAN IDs for traffic separation and configure Quality of Service for prioritizing certain data streams .
• Authentication with OLT: Enter LOID and password if required for registration with the Optical Line Terminal .

Advanced Settings

• Wireless Settings: Configure SSID, password, and security mode if the ONU has Wi-Fi capability.
• MAC Filtering and Access Control: Enable or disable MAC-based access restrictions.
• Statistics and Monitoring: View packet transmission/reception statistics and connection status .
• Firmware Updates: Some ONUs allow firmware upgrades via the web interface to improve performance or security .

Tips

• Always save/apply changes after configuration.
• If login fails, check the device label for the correct credentials or reset the ONU to factory defaults.
• Ensure your PC's IP is in the same subnet as the ONU to access the web interface.
• For troubleshooting, use the Ping command to verify connectivity to the ONU IP . By following these steps, you can fully manage your EPON ONU device, configure network settings, and ensure proper connectivity with your ISP and local devices.
