H3C Fiber Optic Switch Login

You can log in to an H3C fiber optic switch via the console port for initial setup or through the web interface using the device's IP address and default credentials.

Console Login (Initial Access)

1. Connect the management machine to the switch's console port using a console cable (DB-9 to RJ-45) and set the terminal software parameters: baud rate 9600, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity .
2. Power on the switch. When the message Hit ESC to stop autoboot appears, press ESC within 5 seconds to enter the startup interface.
3. Enter Command Shell by selecting option 3, then check the startup environment with printenv.
4. Modify the startup environment if needed using setenv OSLoadOptions "single" and save with saveenv.
5. Boot the switch in single-user mode with the boot command.
6. Mount the root partition and backup partition to enable read/write access.
7. Reset all passwords to default using /sbin/passwddefault.
8. Reboot the switch with reboot -f. After restart, log in with username: admin and password: password .

Web Interface Login

1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your PC to a switch port.
2. Identify the switch IP address:
   • If DHCP is available, the switch obtains an IP automatically.
   • If no DHCP, use the default IP printed on the device label.
3. Assign your PC an IP in the same subnet as the switch.
4. Open a supported browser (Internet Explorer 8+, Chrome 10+, Firefox 4+, Opera 11.11+, Safari 5.1+) and enter the switch IP in the address bar using http://ip-address:port or https://ip-address:port .
5. Log in using the default credentials (admin/password) for the first login.
6. Change the default password immediately for security: click the Admin icon and update credentials. You can also add new users and assign permissions via Device > Maintenance > Administrators .

Enabling HTTP/HTTPS Access

1. Log in to the switch CLI via console.
2. Enter system view: system-view.
3. Enable HTTP service: ip http enable.
4. Configure a management VLAN and assign an IP address to the VLAN interface for web access .

Best Practices

• Clear browser cache and enable JavaScript before accessing the web interface.
• Log out properly using the Logout icon; do not close the browser directly.
• Save configuration changes before rebooting to prevent loss of settings .
• Limit concurrent web logins to 32 users to avoid login failures. By following these steps, you can securely access and manage your H3C fiber optic switch both via console and web interface.
