This setup provides a low input impedance, which is essential for accurate current-to-voltage conversion and minimizes loading on the sensor .

Feedback and Compensation

In practical circuits, parasitic capacitances from the photodiode (CD), op-amp inputs (CCM and CDIFF), and circuit board (CPCB) can interact with the feedback resistor, creating unwanted poles and zeros that affect bandwidth and stability. To compensate, designers often add a small feedback capacitor (CF) in parallel with RF to stabilize the amplifier and control high-frequency response .

  • Input and output impedance: The op-amp configuration ensures low input impedance and controlled output impedance, improving signal transfer from high-impedance current sources .
