Ladder Cable Trays
Ladder trays consist of two longitudinal side rails connected by transverse rungs or crossbars, typically spaced at 6, 9, or 12 inches apart . These crossbars provide critical support for heavy power cables, maintain proper cable spacing, and allow for airflow to dissipate heat generated by electrical currents . Other Cable Tray Types
- Perforated trays have a flat, ventilated bottom with side rails, providing continuous support for moderate cable loads. They do not require discrete crossbars because the perforated base itself supports the cables .
- Solid-bottom trays are fully enclosed and used for sensitive cables like fiber optics or in environments requiring electromagnetic protection. They provide continuous support and do not use crossbars .
- Wire mesh (basket) trays are made of welded steel wires forming a mesh. The mesh itself supports the cables, so crossbars are unnecessary .
- Channel trays are compact, designed for light cables over short spans, and rely on the tray base for support rather than crossbars .
