Installation Method of Zero-Electricity Distribution Box

A zero-electricity distribution box should be securely mounted, properly enclosed, and wired with correct grounding and protective measures before energizing.

Preparation and Placement

• Select the right location: Install the box in a dry, accessible area away from water, flammable, or corrosive substances. Ensure it is convenient for maintenance and inspection, typically at a height of around 1.5 meters for easy access .
• Choose the enclosure type: For industrial or outdoor use, select a box with higher protection ratings (IP66 or NEMA 4X). Materials can be steel for durability or plastic for lighter indoor setups .
• Check load capacity: Match the box to the expected electrical load, considering single-phase (220V) or three-phase (380V) systems .

Mounting the Box

• Wall installation: Use split bolts (expansion bolts) to secure the box. The bolt length should account for embedded depth (75–150 mm), box thickness, nuts, washers, and an extra 5 mm allowance .
• Alternative support: For smaller boxes, embed wood bricks at the installation points and use wood screws to fix the box securely .
• Concealed vs. protective installation: Concealed boxes have open backs and sides, suitable for industrial sites with low continuity requirements. Protective (enclosed) cabinets have all sides closed except the mounting surface, providing higher safety and isolation for internal components .

Internal Wiring and Safety

• Incoming lines: Typically use a five-wire system—three-phase lines (A, B, C), one neutral (zero) line, and one ground line. Connect the neutral to the neutral terminal block and the ground to the grounding terminal block .
• Circuit protection: Install breakers, fuses, or surge protectors for each circuit. Advanced boxes may include RCDs or RCBOs for additional safety .
• Component arrangement: Use DIN rails for mounting devices, and ensure neat cable management to prevent accidental contact with live parts .
• Drawer-type or platform cabinets: For industrial applications, consider drawer-type cabinets with extractable units or platform-type cabinets with control and measurement devices, ensuring separation of bus, functional units, and cables with grounded metal or insulating plates .

• Visual inspection: Ensure all connections are secure, components are properly mounted, and the enclosure is intact .
• Testing: Use a multimeter to verify continuity, grounding, and absence of short circuits before energizing the system .
