Overview

In high-voltage substations, a busbar is a metallic conductor that distributes electrical power from sources to multiple outgoing circuits with minimal voltage drop and power loss ( ). Typical Operation

Under normal conditions, all loads are connected to the main bus, and the auxiliary bus remains de-energized. To transfer a load:

  • Close the auxiliary isolator of the equipment.
  • Close the bus coupler isolators and circuit breaker connecting the auxiliary bus.
  • Open the main bus circuit breaker and isolators for the equipment. This sequence shifts the load safely to the auxiliary bus. Reversing the steps restores the load to the main bus ( ).
